Mini Pig Farrier Apprenticeship

Maintaining and caring for "Mini Pig" Feet

Overview

This farrier apprenticeship will provide you the skills you need to provide excellent care to pigs. This apprenticeship typically takes 12 months to complete. 

After your initial 3-4 months of training, paid apprenticeships are available.

You will be responsible for the quality and accuracy of your work, must communicate with others confidently and have strong problem-solving skills. You will develop strong expert knowledge of porcine anatomy to enable specialist discussion regarding the condition of pigs and their hooves with owners and other professionals.

Daily work includes following strict health and safety regulations in the workplace, using expert skills to safely handling equipment and materials used in farriery, and specialist knowledge to identify the needs of a pig dependent on their breed and age.

Farriers are responsible for the maintenance and care of porcine feet using a holistic approach. It is essential have a thorough understanding of all aspects of porcine hoof care.
